Honey and its 7 effects during pregnancy

GiftedMom/28 Aug, 17/106289/0
Pregnancy

Honey is safe during pregnancy, provided it is pasteurized to kill bacteria. The problem with raw honey is that it can cause botulism (a fatal disease of the nervous system caused by spoiled foods in which Clostridium botulinum is present). The gastrointestinal system of adults contains bacteria that prevent botulinum toxin from moving to the placenta. The 7 incredible effects of honey during pregnancy are:

    1)  Strengthens the immune system

The antibacterial and antioxidant properties of honey enhance the body’s immunity. It also treats cuts, wounds, minor burns and heartburn by neutralizing stomach acids.

    2)  Fights against insomnia (sleepless nights)

The hypnotic action of honey helps to overcome insomnia. Drinking milk mixed with a spoon of honey before bedtime helps you sleep peacefully.

     3)  Relieves colds and coughs

The antiviral properties of honey inhibit viral activity in the body. Cold honey, is an effective inhibitor of coughs.

    4) Relieves sore throat

The anti-inflammatory properties of honey soothe the throat irritation. Add honey to ginger or lemon tea and drink it warm to relieve a sore throat.

    5) Heal ulcers

Studies have shown that regular honey consumption decreases the growth of Helicobacter pylori bacteria, which causes ulcers.

    6) Improves the health of the scalp

The antibacterial nature of honey not only relieves a sore throat, but works effectively to eliminate dandruff and relieve scalp. Dilute some honey in warm water and apply on the scalp to treat the hair.

    7) Reduces allergies

Although not conclusive, honey helps control seasonal allergies because local honey has pollen. In case of regular consumption, it isolates the body against pollen and seasonal allergies.

Danger of honey during pregnancy

Excessive consumption of honey can cause some side effects like these:

    1) Increases insulin sensitivity

Honey increases blood sugar levels and worsens insulin resistance because more than 5 tablespoons of fructose a day are dangerous during pregnancy.

    2) Causes of cramps

Honey leads to stomach cramps, diarrhea, constipation and bloating. Excessive consumption of honey makes your body acidic and affects your digestion.

    3) Affects dental health

The high levels of sugar in honey cause dental caries and dental erosion.

    4) Weight gain

The rich calories present in honey can add your weight.
