8 tips to finish the hiccups of babies and children

Hiccups are one of the most common phenomena in newborns. The hiccups are the small contractions of the diaphragm muscles that often appear and disappear quickly. However, they can make newborns uncomfortable. There are several common elements that cause hiccups such as anxiety or excitement, swallowing the air during the meal, overeating … Normally, they can disappear after 20 to 30 minutes. However, they can be treated before disappearing. There are ways to effectively stop hiccups in newborns and babies.

 

 

    1) Reduce the speed of feeding

 

Many and too fast eating can make babies uncomfortable and cause hiccups. The easiest way to stop hiccups in babies is to reduce the amount of milk for the baby and the feeding speed for each meal. You can adjust the baby’s feeding schedule by feeding them repeatedly to avoid overeating at once, a common cause of hiccups in newborns.

 

 

 

    2) Hold the baby upright while feeding

 

One of the most common causes of hiccups in newborns is that they swallow too much air while they are feeding and stretching their stomachs. In some cases, you can change it to a vertical position of about 30 to 45 degrees of angle when feeding. This position can limit the air in the baby’s stomach and may cause hiccups by reducing pressure on the baby’s diaphragm.

 

 

 

    3) Massage the back of your baby

 

It’s also a simple way to stop hiccups in newborns. Just place your baby standing and the baby’s head is on your shoulder and gently rub the baby’s back for a while until the hiccups go away. Or, you can also gently stroke the baby’s back and / or shoulder decisively. Your action can help push the air in the baby’s stomach easily and the hiccups may go away.

 

 

 

    4) Try some sugar

 

Although there is no evidence that sugar stops hiccups, many women assure that it can help very well. Sugar is not able to harm the health of babies; therefore, you can try this method without worrying about anything. First, you can take your finger or a wet pacifier and put it in a sugar bowl. Then put your finger or pacifier with sugar in the baby’s mouth so that it sucks for a few minutes. Gradually, the hiccups may disappear and your baby will feel more comfortable.

 

 

 

 

    5) Feed the baby when he is relaxed

 

There are many babies who tend to have more hiccups than others. According to the experiences of many women, if your baby is one of these babies, you should start your diet when your baby is relaxed. This can help reduce the risk of hiccups in the baby.

 

 

 

    6) Let the baby rest and relax

 

According to the doctor, taking a break and relaxing is also one of the very effective ways to stop hiccups in newborns. When you feed your baby, you must follow him. If your baby makes noises while swallowing, it means they eat too quickly and swallow the air. In this case, you should take a break and help them to relax a lot more.

 

 

 

    7) Monitor the baby’s position while feeding

 

During your breastfeeding, you should check frequently whether the baby is well placed or not. He is well placed when his lips can cover the areola. Otherwise, he can swallow the air and cause hiccups. In the case of bottle feeding, check whether the end of the bottle is good or not. Some of them may have a larger hole than necessary. This larger hole can make the baby swallow too much air. And while bottle-feeding, tilt the bottle of milk 45 degrees to limit swallowing.

 

 

 

    8) Use of “anti-colic”

 

It is a safe remedy for newborns easy to find in pharmacies. Anti-colic contains natural and safe ingredients that can help reduce gas, colic and hiccups in newborns. 2.5 ml of water for newborns will help stop hiccups quickly. But you must give them small sips of water.
