How to take care of bronchitis in children
Most cases of bronchitis will simply improve. You can actually relieve the symptoms of bronchitis in children with natural remedies like these:
1) Increase the liquids
Increasing fluid intake can help soothe sore throats. This can also make the mucus in your child’s lungs easier to cough. Try hot lemonade, soup and or lukewarm water with lemon and honey.
2) Rest in a vertical position
A lot of rest will help your child regain his health. Try to raise the head of the bed by placing some pillows under the mattress to help your child rest more easily.
3) Hot chest compresses
Bronchitis can make your child’s chest heavy and coughing can be very painful. Apply warm compresses on your child’s chest to relieve him.
4) Add a little moisture
A wet bath or shower can help make your child’s breathing easier. A cool mist humidifier in his room at night can also help.
5) Eliminate irritants
Smoking should never be done around a child. Smoke can mostly irritate your child’s already sore lungs and may also delay the healing process.
In addition, make sure your child is not in an environment where he inhales dust, pollen or chemicals.
6) Give over-the-counter medications carefully
Children over 6 years of age may require a dose of over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen to relieve pain or fever. But you must first consult your doctor.
Follow the instructions carefully. Always contact the doctor before giving an over-the-counter medication to a child under 6 years of age.
A recent study showed that for children over 2 years old, a single dose of honey in the evening was more effective than a cough medicine.
Honey should not be administered to babies under 1 year of age, as this can lead to a rare but very serious disease.
