Sore breasts can be a really painful in pregnancy, particularly in early pregnancy. This is caused by the hormonal changes as your breasts begin to prepare for breastfeeding of the newborn baby.

You may notice that your breasts are very painful to the touch. Some women describe this as an ache in general. You may notice this immediately or you may not notice it until your breasts begin growing, usually very early in pregnancy. The good news is that, for most women, the pain won’t last the entire pregnancy and not having sore breast is no reason for concern but here are some great management tips for dealing with sore breasts in pregnancy.

    1)  Avoid Contact

Sometimes it’s important to be to not keep touching the painful breast. Be sure to communicate this to your partner in a loving way, rather than snapping and hurting their feelings. If you mistakenly hit the breast carefully, adjust them until you feel better.

    2)  Getting the right cup size of bras

You breast size should be measured from the fullest part of your breast that is from under them. You should avoid smaller and ill-fitting sizes. Your breast start increasing from day one of pregnancy until you give birth at least so try to buy bras with increasing cup sizes to be able to support the breast throughout their development.

    3)  Wear Breast Pads

These pads can help shield your nipple from the lining of your bra. This can be particularly painful if there is a seam that runs through the inside of the cup of your bra. Look for smooth bras as well. Use cotton, reusable breast pads, as opposed to the disposable pads.

    4)  Wear a Sports Bra

A sports bra can help minimize movement of your breasts, which is one reason you might feel pain. This works by holding your breasts very close to your chest wall and preventing extra movement throughout the day. That said, some women note that the first few minutes feel an ache because their breasts hurt to be touched. Be sure to measure well, your bra size might actually change from prior to pregnancy to the first months. This can continue throughout the pregnancy

    5)  Sleep in a Bra

You might find that sleeping in a bra is helpful to minimize movement and help with tenderness. This can be a special sleep bra or a comfortable sports bra, but you should not sleep in underwired bra. This works very similarly, to the sports bra suggestion, it is simply an extension of the same thought – less movement of the breasts. Do not take your bra off if you feel better wearing it.

    6)  Take a warm water bath or shower

Taking a warm shower or bath can do wonders in relieving you of this breast pains. Make sure the water isn’t more than 38 degrees Celsius. Anything above 38 might be harmful to the body. Fill the bath tub with warm water and lie in it fully immersed. This should offer you some relieve for your painful breast.

    7)  Drink Plenty of Water and reduce salt intake

Water retention can aggravate painful breasts. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day about 2 liters to flush your body properly of excess fluids and hormones. Adding lemon and ginger can help with soreness and other hormonal symptoms you might be experiencing. While healthy sea salt consumption is important during pregnancy to build blood volume, some mamas may feel relieve by temporarily reducing sodium intake. By doing this and increasing your water, you can drastically reduce sore breasts in pregnancy.

    8)  Consult your doctor

If in all events these remedies fail to relieve you of your painful breast you should immediately consult your doctor to rule out other causes or abnormalities while prescribing and alternative maternity for the issue and it is important that you stay in contact with your doctor.
