6 Natural Remedies against Headaches During Pregnancy
Headaches during pregnancy are inevitable. They are more common during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. They are usually caused by lack of sleep, low blood sugar, dehydration and stress. Here are 6 natural remedies to get rid of these headaches.
1) Take some time to rest and relax
Take a lot of rest and maybe some free time, if you can.
Find a moment to relax, play sports, get some fresh air and you can also change your usual routine. Try walking, swimming or pregnancy classes like yoga. If you like swimming, avoid long sessions, as this could increase your headaches.
2) Have a healthy diet
Adopt a healthy diet. Have a wide variety of unprocessed foods of all types and colors to ensure you have a good balance of nutrients.
If you have a morning sickness, it can be difficult, so nibble what you can. The goal is not to leave your stomach empty for too long.
Eat regularly to maintain your blood sugar. Take small meals more often if you can not eat a lot at once. Keep snack foods such as grilled peanuts handy when working or traveling.
Stay hydrated by drinking at least 1.5 liters of water a day and avoid caffeine. Fruity or natural tea without caffeine can be a good alternative to normal black tea. Avoid green tea, which is rich in caffeine.
3) Adopt a good posture
Make sure the position of your chair, computer screen and car seat promotes good posture.
When you’re driving, you need to adjust the position of your mirror every time you enter the car. This is because your position naturally changes during the day and stretching your neck to look in the mirror can contribute to your headaches.
Check that your bed pillows are not too high, as this can cause a problem in your neck and trigger the pain. If your mattress is over seven, it could affect your back. The pain will then be transmitted to your neck and your head.
4) Use a hot compress
The weak blood circulation and the narrowing of the blood vessels also cause pain in the head. The hot compress is an effective way to calm your headaches.
- Take a bowl of hot water, but make sure it is not too hot for the skin to not burn your skin.
- Dip the cloth in warm water and place it on your forehead and temples.
- Apply gently on the forehead.
- Repeat this process until your headache is relieved.
Note : Do not cover the eyes with a hot compress.
5) Avoid stress
Sometimes headaches can result from stress caused by various situations in and around the home. Try to identify these stress triggers, move them away and have enough rest
6) Get a massage
Massage to relieve sore muscles in the neck and upper spine that can contribute to your headache. Frequent neck massages can help a lot in cases of headaches during pregnancy.
