Feeling your baby’s kicks, hiccups and fidgeting is simply one of the biggest thrills of pregnancy. There may be no better proof that a new and incredibly energetic life is developing in you. However, this could raise doubts and questions for pregnant women (especially women in their first pregnancy). Here are 3 secrets that will answer all your questions regarding your baby’s movements.
1) When would I feel my baby kicking ?
You should feel the first movements of your baby called “acceleration”, between the 16th and the 25th week of your pregnancy. If this is your first pregnancy, your baby may not move until the 25th week. During the second pregnancy, some women begin to feel movement as early as the 13th week. You are more likely to feel that the baby is moving when you are calm, sitting or lying down.
2) What does the baby’s kick look like ?
Pregnant women describe their baby’s movements as flutter, nervous breakdown or acrobatic movement. At first, it can be difficult to tell if your baby has moved. Pregnant women for the second and third time are able to tell the difference between the baby’s first movements and the gases, the noises of hunger and other internal movements.
3) Chronology of the movement of babies

- Week 12 : Your baby should start moving, but you probably can not feel anything because the baby is still so small.
- Week 16 : Some pregnant women will start to feel small flutters. The feeling could simply be gas, or the baby might move.
- Week 20 : At this stage of your baby’s development, you can begin to really feel the first movements of your baby, called “acceleration”.
- Week 24 : baby’s movements become more established. You may also start to feel mild contractions when your baby is hiccupping.
- Week 28 : Your baby is moving often now. Some kicks can make you breathless.
- Week 36 : Your uterus becomes clogged as the baby gets older, and movements should slow down a bit. However, tell your doctor if you notice any significant changes in your baby’s usual activity. You should feel constant movement throughout the day.
